Free Freedom Candy

UPDATE: It turns out I have more of these than I thought I would...so I have more to give away! Instead of 10, it's about 35, so just follow the same instrux below!

-----

In honor of the USA's stirring victory over Canada and that damn crybaby Sid Crosby Sunday night, I've had a few li'l stickers made up of the girl in the Team USA sweater that I posted on the Games' first day. Because selling them would be a copyright can of worms I have no intention of opening, I have no choice but to give them away...which I will, to the first ten people who post an insightful, informative or otherwise witty comment below (basically, something more than "nice!")! So get crackin'...and should you decide on your own to buy something, I certainly won't stand in your way...it is a free country, after all!

I'll put your sticker on my car. How's that for insightful!

I have no insightful comment (sadly), but i am getting updates from a guy up in VAN, and i just wanted to share with everyone, that he said when he left the arena Sunday night, for the first time since the Olympics started, the streets were dead silent. Man thats a beautiful thing to hear. U!S!A!!!!!!

What Nike had in mind when they butchered the necks of the new jerseys.

bdouglas701 said...

Wait a minute... i thought you were a Pens fan. And youre callin your captain a crybaby?

Anonymous said...

Insightful comment? I'm drawing a blank. I do love your stickers though! Seriously, the win was big because the US gets a much easier bracket. Canada vs Russia [likely], and the loser doesn't medal? Who would have thought that a week ago?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, what BC said! It was either a facetious remark or I'm very confused.

Alonzo the Armless said...

GO WINGS!!!!

Something tells me that comment ruined any chances of a free sticker for me. LOL

darinfic said...

the best part of that game was watching brodeur lose it for canada. i think that he's a guy both wings and pens fans can agree to hate!

i have one of your sticker on my car already... you like my two favorite things, chicks and hockey. I would love a USA girl sticker... and a sweden. canes and whalers but anyways.... USA!

PS- Met you in charlotte twice

TJ said...

It was a big upset win. It wasnt, however, as big an upset as the USA over Russia in Lake Placid in 1980, or The Dream Team losing in 2004.

Unknown said...

there was one point where crosby laid out orpik and it wasn't ever mentioned - went back and watched it. go pens, er USA!

Seabass said...

Brodeur is officially washed up! Luongo should fare much better. But Miller is still the best in the tourney right now.

I'll be streaming the games at work today and tomorrow :)

kylenap said...

It's awesome. Go Team USA.

bdouglas701 said...

2.32 GAA, .915 sv%, 7 SO, and 34 wins. Definitely not an AMAZING season. But washed up? Not quite yet fellas

Peter said...

I really didn't think the USA jersey would look good on anyone...but you showed us!!...Thanks Rob!!

Gregg T said...

this is my mo...Forever showing up late to the party then choking when trying to hit on the hottest chick in the room..much like all the athletes Canada sent to the olympics....damn...

Robert Ullman said...

I was totally being facetious with the Sid comment...just trying to see what it feels like to be a fan of one of the other 29 teams in the NHL. And much like all those other fans, I knew what I was saying was a complete lie when I said it!

Although I'm rooting for the USA, I'd be okay with seeing Crosby do great, and I'd love to see him win a medal, if only 'cause I love to see him shut up the haters.

Olympic hockey makes for strange bedfellows...It just felt wrong cheering for Brian Rafalski. Also, much as I'd like to see Marc-Andre Fleury get some playing time, I just don't think I could celebrate his getting knocked around like Brodeur did the other night.

And that high-stick on Orpik by Crosby was positively surreal!

bdouglas701 said...

Yeah i know what ya mean, its a trip seeing Langenbrunner get a GWG against Marty.

Robert Ullman said...

There were Devils all over that ice...plus fuggin' Doc Emrick calling the game! Had to be hard to immediately follow who you were rooting for! I hear an announcer yell "CROSBY!" and I just reflexively get excited!

I hope Luongo is shaky enough that MAF starts the game vs. Russia...Crosby and Fleury against Gonchar and Malkin? Epic. And I hope it ends with MAF stoning Ovechkin in a shootout!

Anonymous said...

I don't understand the Sid hate. I am not a Pens fan by any measure, but I can recognize talent and skill when I see it.

bdouglas701 said...

Yeah havin Doc there is probably the best part. I hate wishing bad things upon my players, but i'd love to see Canada drop.

And i'll admit that my hatred for Sid has no backing to it. No real reason. Just hate him! But like DC said, hate or not, you cant deny the talent.

Does anyone know the OT format for the medal games? It better not be a shootout...

Robert Ullman said...

Pretty sure it is a shootout, after maybe 2 5-minute OTs? Shootouts have been the way of things in the Olympics for awhile...I remember the 1994 gold medal game going to Sweden in an SO, as well as an entertaining if ass-early Canada/Czech game from Nagano in 1998.

Todd V said...

Surely a die-hard Orpik fan and Pens Rooter to Boot won't be left out in the cold??!!

Robert Ullman said...

Hey, you know what? Everyone who commented gets a sticker, first ten or not.* Just send me an address at rob [at] robullman [dot] com and I'll send 'em out soon as I can.

* Everyone but オテモヤン , that is...he's kind of a dick.

As a hockey fan in Florida, I enjoy watching the games, and seeing players do well. With Vokoun and Luongo doing great, I have enjoyed watching the other games too. I always learn something new in all these events.

Then, on top of that, Rob rewards us with a lovely USA babe in a great sweater and socks. Go USA indeed!

Lee W said...

Rob only you could make that goofy as hell looking squared off collar look good.

BloodyGuts said...

i have made your pens & steelers girls into magnets that make my female roommate uncomfortable. i wouldnt mind doing it with this one as well...

James Anderson said...

I see that there's already 28 comments so I doubt mine will be so insightful as to garner a sticker. However, I just wanted to point out that it was a Red Wing who virtually had a hat trick.

Robert Ullman said...

NO STICKER FOR YOU!

Naw, just kidding. What was it like seeing Babcock's "Aw, my fingers just went through the toilet paper!" face and enjoying it for once?

jc said...

excellent work as always. god bless hot chicks, hotly contested hockey and upsetting the home team.

Robert Ullman said...

That's 16. Keep 'em coming!

Eric Braun said...

Rob, I would love to have one! even if we beat my beloved Marty Brodeur. btw please dont hold that against me, Penguin fan you...

Robert Ullman said...

I'll send one, but it'll be stuffed in a jelly donut in honor of ol' Marty.

Adam said...

Wow, I wish we could get this kinda turnout on our give aways.

I'm glad to hear you rooting for USA on that one. I figured you would, but I actually had a debate in my head about it. Does that mean I think about you too much, Rob?

Robert Ullman said...

Is it possible to think about me too much?

The trick is to appeal to the lizard brain. Sleaze is the ticket, my friend.

The square cut neck finally makes sense.

Ry Co 40 said...

after seeing this USA girl... your artwork will make/have me settle down and start a "serious" relationship just so i can commision a sexy girl piece! LOL. insightful?

TKO said...

It's not a miracle on ice till she takes the jersey off

TMK said...

I would like some stickers to put on my Trapper Keeper and locker at school. If I had those stickers, the kids wouldn't make fun of me anymore, and if someone tried to bully me, i would just show him the stickers on my Trapper Keeper (and locker) and he would know I'm the coolest and let me into circle of cool guy friends....

bdouglas701 said...

That Marty Jelly Donut line was horrible. And hilarious. Damnit Robert.

Q said...

Rob,

Thanks for the offer of a sticker. I'm comment #42, maybe too late for a sticker, but I hope you can send one my way.

I missed the first half of the game driving home in the snow from the airport. My rental car had satellite radio - I couldn't find a broadcast of the game, but I did find a CBC stream. During the news at the top of the hour, they game score updates three different times!

It was a great win, but not a miracle. It validates the late Herb Brooks, though: you win with the right players, not the best ones.

I should have two based purely on being me.

Rob, I hope I am not too late, but I think Houston needs to see your work and I would love to support USA and you here! I think that deep in the heart of Texas needs some good ol' USA hockey exposure...especially this kind of "exposure"!

TJ said...

my comment was pretty insightful and the 11th...where's my swag? How do I get one?

Eric said...

Without reading every other comment, I was kind of hoping you were going to do a lady for each country.

Sean McGurr said...

How about a curling lady?

As a Columbus Blue Jackets fan (hey, I grew up in Cleveland and didn't have a home team to root for and now I'm in central Ohio), it is nice to have a real team to cheer on. Go USA!

Kek said...

Put red boots on her and she's bound to get Tony Kornheiser suspended!

I've been saying "crosby sucks" during Canada's game just as a joke...the wife does NOT approve!

John S said...

Would LOVE one of these stickers! Can't imagine the one you will make when the USA wins gold on Sunday.

Don said...

These stickers are pucking awesome! Insightful enough?

Robert Ullman said...

Team USA advances to the semi-finals...now it's just a question of which medal they'll play for.

So, everybody wins! Send me an address at rob [at] robullman [dot] com and you'll get a sticker in your mailbox!

Robert Ullman said...

Working on a curling lady commission soon! Not for Team USA, however, but a member of Team Bond Girls out of Hollywood, CA, who I met at Comicon last summer and who are currently kicking ass at a tournament in Wisconsin.

Matt G said...

Rob, that is killer! The girls are going to be so stoked!

Adam Korengold said...

If I were Mikka Kiprusoff and I see a comely figure like Miss Team USA on Friday afternoon, my thoughts might turn away from the game I'm playing and towards other things. Resulting in a substantial lead for our boys in blue!

I hope that's insightful enough-would looove one of those stickers!

Adam Korengold said...

And if your offer still stands-here's my address: 7942 Central Park Circle, Alexandria, VA 22309!

Go Team USA!

Team USA Sucks in every sport they dont deserve any medals.

Robert Ullman said...

Cool sticker, I want one... except why is it a drawing of Chris Pronger in a USA jersey and thighhighs?

Robert Ullman said...

I like where you're going with the analogy, but if it was Pronger, she'd be wearing pigtails.

John S said...

Got my sticker in the mail, can't thank you enough! The sticker looks great. GO USA!

Jon Cendrowski said...

What would Mike Richards look like then?

Q said...

Rob,

I got the sticker in the mail yesterday. It looks great and the wife loves it, too! We put it on the fridge out of reach of our 1 year-old.

Anonymous said...

The sticker looks fantastic in person. Thanks.

Erik said...

Wow am I late to the party of this one! Rob, love your work and would love a sticker. The Olympics was a great tournament and the final was amazing. I'm really happy that the NHL is back and am looking forward to your playoff illustrations.

Alex Bielecki said...

Rob,

Not sure if teh stickers are all gone, but let's face it, if Miller had had this lady on his helmet, I think Sid the Kid might have gotten streamrolled by one of the Johnson's drooling over her instead of hitting that winning goal. We've got to find a way for you to get one of these ladies on a NHL goalie's helmet. I wish I played goalie because I'd commission oen for my helment in one seconds time.

Michael Potozniak said...

I have a plain white goalie helmet and I plan on using the stickers I purchased from you on it. I can only assume that the stickers are all gone, but your USA lady would have been the centerpiece for damn sure.

I live in Buffalo and I was very proud of Miller and Team USA even though they lost. It was a hell of a game and Canada got their miracle on ice.

Unknown said...

I love hockey and I love your hockey ladies. Go USA!!!

chibi said...

hey Rob, any chance of some free stickers for canada? i'd be all over that....

chibi said...

i just read the everybody wins post... everybody? i may be partial to canada but i'd never turn down a piece of your work...
