Here we are again. Penguins vs. Red Wings, round two. Boy, when I think back about how confident I was at the start of last year's finals, it's almost embarrassing. This year, I'm confident again, but in a much more measured, cautious and realistic way. Much as it goes with the teams involved themselves, you gotta learn to lose before you can learn to win. Suffice to say, this series will be analyzed and broken down by people much more qualified and knowledgeable than me, so I'll stick with what I do best: Gut reactions and homeresque logic. I think the Pens have learned all there is to know about losing, and that they're now poised to learn a thing or two about winning. Hell yes I believe.
Pittsburgh Penguins in six.

I hope you're right, and this is without a doubt my favorite piece of NHL cheesecake so far!
I'm going to say Wings in seven, Rob. Unfortunately, I'll miss Heroescon this year so if I'm wrong, I won't have to wear your Pens jersey. In any case, the playoffs this year (Pens/Caps, Wings/Ducks) has already been spectacular, so here's to a hopefully hard fought, closely matched and exciting finals...
Sheesh! Based on the pre-game shows it sounds like Crosby's gonna beat the Wings all by himself. Still, I like the Wings in 7. They've got depth and have playing better than last year without some of their best. But then I'm biased.
Also, if the Pens learned to lose last year, wouldn't that just make them better losers this year? ;D
bad bounces tonight for the pens but you also have to give credit to lidstrom/zetterberg/rafalski for shutting sid and geno down. i'm praying for seven games
Chibi, you've read this blog long enough to know I give no credit. All I saw last night was a bunch of incredibly lucky bastards in red sweaters, and Shitterberg's best play was somehow avoiding a penalty shot for closing his glove over the puck in the crease.
I hate the Red Wings like an islamo-fascist hates Mohammed cartoons. It may not be an attractive character trait, but as The Cronk says, "That's the way it is."
I'm still pulling for the Pens, but no way they win in 6 if games keep going like they did last night.
The Wings will win in 6.
GO WINGS!
Real brave prediction there, now.
Win the next two in Pittsburgh and all will be OK.
Great drawing by the way!
LOL That's true, Rob. I'm a moron when it comes to sports and a self-admitted Fair Weather Fan.
But Detroit gets bashed more than any other city, whether its due to their sports teams or the problems the city is facing due to economic woes, racial tensions, and more. We're an easy target for the rest of the U.S. so I'm going to stay loyal to my hometown when I can.
GO WINGS!!!
i didn't get to see sunday's game but i have to say i was surprised. i like your passion and give-no-credit-take-no-prisoners attitude toward the pens. i'd still like to see this series go the distance but i'm starting to have my doubts...
Stubbornness is one quality I have in spades, Cheebs.
John, it's nice to know my intense disappointment is cause for such civic pride in you. Not really fair, though...'cause should the Pens come back and win this thing, your own level of disappointment will be about equal to what you feel when you realize, mid-shit, that there's only one sheet of toilet paper left.
Be sure to let me know next time you lock your keys in your car on a freezing cold night...I have an uncle who's a locksmith, and I'll tell you how happy I am that one of his fellow pin-and-tumblers made a couple hundred dollars bailing you out.
No, I'm one of those people you hate that if the Wings lose, I'll be disgustingly chipper saying I'm proud they made it this far and both teams played a good series, etc. and the playoffs boosted the mood of metro Detroit for a bit when it needed it the most.
Thanks for the offer of your uncle's locksmithing service, but if that happened to me, I'd just call my wife for her spare key.
GO WINGS!!!
